Frequently Asked Questions

These are designed to help with any general questions you may have. More specific answers can be given at your initial assessment.

Can I have white fillings?

Almost certainly yes. There are two main types, composite resins and porcelain, the former are usually used for fillings in front teeth and smaller cavities in back teeth, whilst the latter are usually used in back teeth. Porcelain can however be used to crown or veneer any suitable tooth. You dentist will be able to advise you on the correct choice.

Do I need to see the Hygienist?

At Ashby we believe that it is important to maintain a healthy mouth; this includes teeth, gums and the surrounding soft tissues. 54% of all adults have gum disease around at least one tooth*, however by seeing our Hygienists regularly and achieving a healthy mouth your chances of developing such problems will be significantly reduced, thus minimising the risks of tooth loss.

* Adult Dental Health Survey 1998.

What are implants?

Implants are used, in dentistry, to replace missing teeth. They are typically made from titanium and are placed in the jaw bone following tooth loss. They can then support a crown to replace a single tooth, a bridge to replace several teeth, or can retain a denture. Amanda Mellor, our surgical specialist is experienced in placing implants; if you are interested in this option please discuss it with your dentist or arrange an appointment directly with Amanda.

Do I have to pay for my children to be seen?

We do not carry out any treatment under the National Health Service therefore there is a charge to all patients.

However we do not charge children under the age of 6 years for check ups, older children are charged at reduced rates for a general examination, fillings or other treatment that they may require.

We also offer Denplan for Children (under 18yrs)

We recommend that our under 18s are members of Denplan. This plan is designed to give the level of cover that suits your child the best. Denplan for Children provides comprehensive preventive and restorative dental treatment for children right up until they reach adulthood.

Payments start at just £6.23 per month
